PrescribeIT Timeline

Since 2015, PrescribeIT® has established itself as a leader in the Canadian electronic prescribing space by enabling prescribers to electronically transmit a prescription to a patient’s pharmacy of choice. PrescribeIT® has experienced significant growth and has achieved numerous milestones, and is well on its way to fulfilling its vision of providing safer and more effective medication management to all Canadians, prescribers, and pharmacies.

2015

Infoway begins investigation into creating Canada’s e-prescribing service.

2016

Government of Canada provides start-up investment for e-prescribing. Secured first letter of intent (LOI) with a pharmacy chain, and ended the year with memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with two jurisdictions (Alberta, Ontario), and an LOI with three pharmacy chains.

2017

Government of Canada provides major investment for PrescribeIT®. The first jurisdiction goes live in Ontario (Huntsville), MOUs with six jurisdictions and an LOI in place with 13 pharmacy chains.
End 2017 with:

38 Prescribers enrolled
19 Pharmacies enrolled

2018

Second and third jurisdictions go live—Alberta (Lethbridge) and New Brunswick (Saint John). MOUs with nine jurisdictions. Agreements with six electronic medical record (EMR) and three pharmacy management system (PMS) vendors.
End 2018 with:
774 Prescribers enrolled
832 Pharmacies enrolled

Fourth Jurisdiction goes live in Saskatchewan (La Ronge). MOUs with ten jurisdictions. Agreements with eleven EMR and five PMS vendors. Letter of intent (LOI) with 31 brands of retail pharmacies across Canada.

2020

MOUs with 12 jurisdictions. Agreements with 17 EMR and eight PMS vendors. Engagements with 45 retail pharmacy brands across Canada.
